Job or Startup in a Recession?
by Santosh
Rishabh asks if one should choose a Startup or stay with a job in a Recession.
Anjali suggests that it is never the right time to leave a job. During a recession, if you got a job you better keep it because the Economy is shedding jobs. During an economic upswing, your salary is growing phenomenally and you will not want to quit.
I posit, the best time to quit when you have a plan and want to start working full-time on executing it.
please dive deeper into the events that surround a recession. Thanks

Start up a business? Good. Think twice before you act! Know your strengths and weaknesses.
Good luck!
Time we change our mentatility and not but so much emphasize on a job. We learn a trade so we should use it to benefit ourselves as well. Not only work towards some one else’s dreams. We all are great at something. Lets tap into our talents the thought of a recession can be so depressing. I am all with you LifeX3
A job is merely work. I believe that recessions are ideal times to take a personal inventory of your skills, gifts and talents and ask yourself what is it that I would do with joy daily without getting paid. If you can identify an activity that fits that descriuption then you should develop a plan to make that your career path and start your own business within that area. You can do nothing but succeed when you do what you love to do daily, and then simultaneously train others to take care of the day to day operations and you continue to create more in roads to your own success.
Recession is the best time to startup something new but you should be doing towards the end of it where you think the economy might just pull out of it in the next few months. But dont just give up on the full time job if you are low on finances

I don’t think the two are comparable. Should I get a job in a new industry/country or should I keep my old one are two comparable options? Should I start a company is like asking, should I become a monk, should I attempt Mt. Everest, should I have a baby? Anything that has a ‘jumping into unknown, unacceptable, unappreciated territory’ like quality to it is more comparable to the startup question.
Anjali,
Good point, the harder the decision the more evasive and misleading are the justifications of not making the decision happen.

yes i agree. start when you are ready to take the plunge, regardless of the state of economy in general.
